3DS Is Japan's Fastest Selling Hardware

Due to its poor launch lineup and hefty price tag, a lot of us thought that the 3DS wouldn't sell as well. The truth is, the 3DS just became the fastest selling hardware in Japan. Fifty-two weeks after its February 26, 2011 release, the 3DS surpassed the five million mark. The Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance topped out at five million units after 56 weeks and 58 weeks, respectively.

Regardless of geographic region for this sales data, the hardware sales for the 3DS has certainly surprised many of us who were skeptical about its performance. I'm sure the release of Super Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land (as well as other hot Japanese titles) had a lot to do with the year-ending sales rally, though.

Monster Hunter Tri G Westward Bound?

In a recent Monster Hunter Tri G review from newly-launched website Nintendo-Gamer, there are large hints that this title will make its way westward. Currently, Monster Hunter Tri G is only available in Japan but an excerpt from the review has fans optimistic about its westward release. I mean, these are rather large tips.

"The potential hours in Tri G are huge. But for that very reason it’s the kind of game to wait for – playing this outside Japan means there are no fellow hunters, and so arguably no way to see the best of what it offers. Tri G is a great reworking of what was already a wonderful game, and probably has more content than any other 3DS title available – so it’s just a pity we won’t get to play it until later this year. What is this, the ’90s?"

To sum it all up at the end, with the reviewer verdict, this is stated:

"Tri G has everything that makes Monster Hunter great, but in the absence of online it’s probably better to wait until a bit later in the year for the European release."

Based on all the hype and demand for this game, I'm pretty sure the European and North American regions will eventually see this game.

Nintendo has already confirmed that Game Gear and Turbografx-16 games will be released for the 3DS eShop. Now, it looks like the Game Gear games will finally be trickling in. The Game Gear titles Shinobi and Sonic The Hedgehog: Triple Trouble have been rated by the ESRB and included in its 3DS list. No timetable for release has been given, but I suspect it will be very soon, possibly within the month.

Resident Evil: Revelations was announced at $50 last year due to the 4Gb cartridge (about 2Gb larger than current 3DS games). Capcom has stated that after "weeks of effort" they are able to announce that the game will launch for $39.99.
Looks like we can take the money we save and put it towards the Circle pad Pro, which after playing the demo, I feel will bring more enjoyment to the game.

Predict My Step Count

Step right up, everyone! I swear that wasn't an intended pun.

Yesterday, I thought of a pretty cool idea. I haven't seen anyone, anywhere else do something like this so it should be really interesting and fun.

Here's your chance to make a prediction and win a prize at the conclusion of the event. Here are the details. I might add more along the way, based on feedback.

Predict the total number of steps that are recorded on my Nintendo 3DS, without exceeding the amount. Whoever is closest without going over...wins!

Event starts immediately and ends December 31st, 2012 at 11:59 Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Post your prediction in this article (or on the Google+ post) to enter the contest.

Prize valuation is determined by how many people provide a prediction.

Share this article with your friends; the more predictions, the better.

Predictions will no longer be accepted after February 12, 2012 at 11:59PM. That's not a random, arbitrary date...it actually means something. "This means you have about two full weeks to get the word out!

Predictions can be changed unlimited times until they are no longer accepted. If someone wishes to change their prediction, they simply update their number here, or on the Google+ page.

I plan on providing updates every 1st of the month so you can track the accuracy of your prediction.

As a disclaimer to everyone here, I want to make it perfectly clear that I will not cheat in any way. I will carry my 3DS in my hand, pocket, or backpack when traveling somewhere...if I think about it. Lately, I've been doing that rather often so the chances I will forget are unlikely. Various forms of cheating could include the following:

strapping my 3DS onto some type of animal and using food as a fetch method

duct-taping my 3DS onto a rotating device, such as a ceiling fan or vehicle wheel

keeping my 3DS warm by leaving it on top of the dryer, while clothes are drying

After all, why would I cheat to clock my steps? It's not me that's going to win anything; it's you!

For proof, here is a picture I took just moments before creating this article:

(click on image for full view)

Currently, I have 8,358 steps recorded for this year. Will you be able to predict how many steps I will take for the remainder of the year? We'll see about that.

Make your prediction today!

With that, I'm going for a brisk walk.

Current predictions:

Chris - <del class='bbc'>37,500</del>, 37,502

Classicgamer - <del class='bbc'>37,501</del>, 1

Although Nintendo hasn't coughed up an official release date for Animal Crossing 3DS, some new tidbits of information has surfaced. We're already aware of some of the items below but there are a few that are new...to me at least. Every time a new piece of information surfaces for this game, I get more excited. 3DS Owners rejoice! Looks like Punch Out is going to be released in the 3DS eShop in Japan on February 1.No one can verify if or when the US will have a chance to K.O. the NES title.

So far I am reading that the title will go for the same price as the Wii Virtual Console version (500 points aka $5) This will also be the first direct port of a NES game to the eShop for non-Ambassadors.
Who plans on getting it?

Rumor: Final Fantasy VI Remake In The Works?

It's been a few years since Square-Enix remade Final Fantasy IV for the Nintendo DS. Fans were quite understandibly disappointed when they learned that Final Fantasy V & VI couldn't be remade on the DS for technical reasons. With the release of some promotional artwork for the series's 25th anniversary, people getting hopeful that Square is hinting at a remake of Final Fantasy VI. Their reasoning? The "25th" is colored exactly the same as FFVI's logo, and the moogle is drawn eerily similar to that of Mog's official art for FFVI. I personally think it's more of a homage, but the 3DS should have what it takes to render FFVI in full 3D.

View your Pokémon in a whole new dimension!

This is a really neat application (completely free I might add) that is available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS via the Nintendo eShop. The Pokédex 3D application was developed by Creatures, Inc. and released on June 6th, 2011. The application, in its simplest form, is a 5th Generation Pokédex. Upon becoming available, I immediately downloaded it but didn't really pay too much attention to it. Now it's actually become quite exciting, not to mention a routine daily event for me. Every time I open my 3DS, I receive a new SpotPass notification to receive a new Pokémon. I currently have 58 Pokémon so I'm hoping that I'll complete the Pokédex this year. Here are some of the features, along with the official trailer video.

Collect data on over 150 Pokémon™ from the Pokémon Black and Pokémon White Version games!

See each Pokémon in 3D with animated motion and sound.

Rotate the Pokémon image 360 degrees to zoom in and out, and view it from any angle.

Search, sort, and filter all of the data you receive in a multitude of ways!

Complete your Pokédex by receiving Pokémon data from friends, using the SpotPass™ feature, or by scanning special Augmented Reality (AR) Markers.

Once you have collected data for a Pokémon, the AR Viewer allows you to view that Pokémon image in a real-world setting in real time, and create photos to share with friends!

Nintendo has already announced that they are working on a new Zelda title for the 3DS, but the latest rumors are that they're planning two games. The games, titled The Legend of Zelda: Fire Prophecy, and The Legend of Zelda: Ice Prophecy. They are believed to be compatible in the same way as the Oracle games for the Game Boy Color. Don't get your hopes up too much, though. The image apparently originated from 4chan, so I wouldn't put too much stock in this.
I've created our community so now it's time to start revving our engines. In the meantime, I'll gather up as many participants as I can. If you know anyone, share our Mario Kart 7 community code with them. I hope to see some of you guys out on the track!

Indie Game "The Binding of Isaac" May B...

The current rumor swirling around the Nintendoverse the last couple of days is the possibility of the acclaimed indie PC game "The Binding of Isaac" being ported to 3DS. According to one of the developers, Edmund McMillan, that could very well happen.

McMillan wrote this regarding a possible port:
"A publisher i know is currently asking nintendo if they woudl be ok with isaac on the 3ds, if they say yes then ill had the game off to them and let them port it."[sic]

The only issue is that The Binding of Isaac is very violent and dark, with a lot of religious themes as well. Still, I would be surprised if Nintendo said no.

Ambassador Titles Receive Additional Features

Things are starting to look up for 3DS owners, Ambassadors and non-Ambassadors alike. Back in July, Nintendo made the following statement before rolling out the first wave of Ambassador titles:

"These will be 2D games. They are not 3D Classics. When the NES games become available to the general public later this year, they will include additional features such as multiplayer simultaneous play. Ambassadors will then be able to download those updated version at no cost."
I wouldn't say it's ironic that the first Ambassador title to be released to the public via Nintendo eShop is The Legend of Zelda. While it's only currently available in the Japanese region, it's a true sign that great things will soon follow to the other regions. In fact, The Legend of Zelda has already been updated to support the creation and loading of restore points; just like the eShop Game Boy games. The update also included a digital manual for the game, as well as a sleeker looking menu icon. I suspect those of us in the other gaming regions will soon be able to enjoy the updated NES ambassador titles. I, personally, am looking forward to playing some simultaneous gameplay online with a few friends.

3DS Messaging App Coming Soon

Last month, one of our members, Alexis, contributed an article about the upcoming 3DS messaging app called Letter Box. Well, it's now about time for that application to become available. Beginning this Thursday, December 22nd, Letter Box will become available for FREE to the European region. Letter Box is Nintendo's first messaging application that allows friends to exchange photos, drawings, and message text via StreetPass and Wi-Fi connections.
No official announcement has been made as to when the North American region will see the new messaging application. It's likely to become available this Thursday, under the name of Swapnote. The application has already been available in Japan under the name Itsu no Ma ni Koukan Nikki. Here's a short video clip that shows off the message-exchanging application in action.
