Strider For Virtual Console Arrives

Before today, February 16th, 2012, it's been 175 days since the Virtual Console library has last been updated. The last title to be released was The Ignition Factor, which was released on August 25th, 2011 for the North American region. Today, after almost six months, Strider (Sega Genesis version) has been added to the Wii's Virtual Console arsenal. Strider can be downloaded immediately for 800 Wii Points.

I wonder what Nintendo have been up to for the past six months. I'm hoping that they've been upgrading and updating their Virtual Console service.

Hulu Plus Now Available

Stated in a recent Nintendo of America press release, Hulu Plus is now available in the United States. This free application is available via the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel. This is great for those who want a live stream for shows such as The Office, Glee, Family Guy, The New Girl, The biggest Loser, and much more. Those who do not have a Hulu Plus membership can enjoy a free two-week trial period. This incentive is only available during the first month of the Hulu Plus launch, however. After that, the monthly membership will be $7.99.

Unfortunately, for those outside the United States this application is not available. I was really looking forward to watching some Family Guy.

60 Minutes Of Rhythm Heaven Fever

I never paid any attention to this game before, but my attention has been caught. Below, is a video that was provided by YouTube user NiNTENDOMiNATi0N and I must say that this looks like a pretty fun game to play. The video is just over one hour long and shows off gameplay for Rhythm Heaven Fever starting from the beginning. I only watched the first 10 or so minutes of the game. In fact, it was enough time for me to almost want to get this game. It's a great change of pace if you know what I mean.

What do you guys think of this?

Xenoblade Chronicles Reversible Box Art

Nintendo of America is asking its fans, via their Facebook page, to vote for their favorite Xenoblade Chronicles box art. There are four beautifully designed images to choose from. The image with the most number of votes (likes) could end up becoming printed as the reverse side of the game’s North American cover. Fan or not, they're all awesome.

PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond

Quite possibly the last Pokemon-titled game for the Wii, PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond will be available in the North American region on February 27th, 2012. This game is the sequel to PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure. I, personally, have never played a PokéPark title and I don't think I'll play this one either. I'm not sure I like the type of gameplay featured in the PokéPark games. For those who are interested however, here is a list of features for the upcoming PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, along with the official trailer.

Mario Party 9 Update

So you've finished Skyward Sword and now you're playing all those great 3DS games, right? I mean, Skyward Sword was Nintendo's grand finale for the Wii, wasn't it? Or...was it? Xenoblade Chronicles Confirmed for North America

Thanks to a tip from lelouch, Xenoblade Chronicles fans in North America can now rest easy. Though not scheduled to be released until April of next year, I'm sure everyone will stay busy with the holidays and that time will fly by rather quickly. Also, I noticed in the trailer below that there's a link at the end of the clip. The link is xenoblade.com and it gets re-directed to Nintendo's website. I thought that was pretty interesting. I figured that it might go to the developer's website, Monolith Soft.

Black Friday Just Became Blue

According to an online Black Friday flyer for Walmart (page 2), a limited edition blue-colored Wii will be available for purchase starting at select Walmart stores around North America. While this cool-colored console might appeal to many (or not) it's the new Wii design which means it does not have support for GameCube games. If you're OK with that and you like the new color then this might be for you.

Now, the next question I have for you is "Are you willing to join the stampede at Walmart to get one of these?"

New Skyward Sword Trailer Shows Origin of the M...

Link plays meet and greet in this new Skyward Sword trailer, while his sword gets the ultimate upgrade.

We all knew that the "Goddess Sword" wielded by Link in Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword would eventually become the Master Sword that appears in A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and more games besides, but in its infnite wisdom, Nintendo has decided to share that fateful moment with the entire internet as part of a new trailer.

The "Origins" trailer - as it's called - also shows snippets of the game's 100 minutes or so of cinematics, as well as a few snatches of gameplay. There are lots of shots of Link meeting people - or at least people-esque creatures - and one particulartly dramatic scene where a mysterious Sheikah woman stops the evil Lord Ghirahim in his tracks with a huge magical barrier.

I've said it before - and at the rate Nintendo is going, I'll likely say it again - but it feels like Nintendo is tripping over itself to stuff spoilers into its marketing for Skyward Sword. Obviously you can't completely avoid them - it's rather tricky to make a trailer without spoiling something - but it really does feel like we've seen more of the game than we really need to by this point.
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword comes out for the Wii on November 20th.

Skyward Sword Could Be Nintendo's Last for Wii

Nintendo has indicated that the Legend of Zelda series could be the franchise to give its home console a swansong for a second generation running.

When asked at the Golden Joystick awards whether Skyward Sword would be the last Nintendo-published title to hit the Wii before the arrival of the Wii U, UK marketing manager James Honeywell told SPOnG, "To be honest, I don’t really know.

"Unfortunately, they don’t really let me into the development circle as such. We know certain things, naturally. I know that Skyward Sword is really tearing it up in the reviews - 10/10 from EDGE really surprised us. I know that there’s a lot of gameplay in there - hundreds of hours. I’m certainly looking forward to playing that across the Christmas period."

Previous entry in the Legend of Zelda series, Twilight Princess, was released right at the last minute of the Gamecube's lifecycle - so much so that it ended up seeing a release on the newly-launched Wii at the same time in 2006.

New Wii Colors For Christmas

In the same press release Nintendo released to announce the blue Wii hardware bundle the company also hinted that they will be releasing other fun colors and bundles in the run-up to Christmas. Which color would you like to see?

A number of other fun Wii bundles are also being announced this autumn, all offering great value. Watch this space!

I, personally, like the blue one that will be coming out.
